Society for Creative Anachronism

Greetings, and welcome to my personal SCA page.

Just a little note on how this page is set up, so that none of my friends get lost. The frist part of this webpage is set up to let anyone not in the SCA know what it is about. The second part is set up to let people know a little about myself. The third and last part is set up with very useful links about the SCA. Each part will be seperated by a picture centered in the middle of the page like the one below. I hope that this information helps everyone out.

The Society for Creative Anachronism, (SCA), is an international, nonprofit, educational organization which researches and recreates pre-17th Century European history. Many groups meet weekly, and at these meetings we dance, talk, study, learn, revel, and make plans. The purpose of the SCA is the study and recreation of the European Middle Ages, its crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature, etc. To put it simply, it's a bunch of people interested in History. They like to recreate certain aspects of it. I find the people in the SCA all to be very friendly and willing to do almost anything for another SCA member. The SCA was started by a group of friends in California back in 1965, and has grown into a world wide organization. Members of the SCA live in cantons/shires/colleges which are within Baronys which are within Region which are within Kingdoms. In the US it is very similar to the city, county, state and country you live in.

I live in the Kingdom of Artemisia. Mundanely, Artemisia consists of Utah, Montana, southern Idaho and the parts of Colorado and Wyoming that are west of the Continental Divide. Artemisia has some very friendly people within its borders. I have hardly ever gone to an event with out being greeted by people like we were old friends. To find out what Kingdom you live in, and where the nearest SCA group to you is, go check out the SCA geography page. The Kingdom of Artemisia can be identified by the banner to the left.

Within The Kingdom of Artemisia I live in the area known as Barony of One Thousand Eyes. The major population centers of One Thousand Eyes are located from and between Idaho Falls and Pocatello, Idaho, just like they are in the mundane world. The Barony covers most of south-east Idaho, from the Utah border in the south to Salmon in the north, and east from Burley to the Idaho/Wyoming border; and being located so close to the center of the Kingdom of Artemisia, is sometimes called the heart of Artemisia. The Barony of One Thousand Eyes can be identified by the banner to the right.

I am known as "Angelique la Noire" in the SCA, which is French. It means "Angelika the Black", because of my dark hair. I have no idea what time peirod I'm from yet, but I guess that can come later. I am always willing to help out anyway that I can, be it at fighter practice or at an event. I am starting to learn how to make my own garb (costuming), but it is slow going. I don't think anybody will see me in garb made all by myself for awhile. *Smile* To see what I look like at events click here.

I am a member of a household called "House Sand Castle". Mistress Shauna of Carrick Point, is the head of the household. Not everybody in the household is a herald, only about half of the people are. We do try to make all the camping events, and we try to camp as a household when ever we can. Just look for a campsite having a lot of fun and that has a heraldry banner. If you find that, you more than likely may have found us. The Heralds can be identified by the banner to the left.

I started in the SCA in January of 1997. I went to my first event, and was hooked. I started going to fighter practices the very next week. I enjoy being a member of the SCA for a lot of reasons. One is because the females are called M'lady or Lady, depending on if they have received an Award-Of-Armes (A.O.A.) or not. Another reason is because the gentlemen open doors for the ladies and escorts them around. In other words it shows that chivalry is still alive.

Another reason I like the SCA is because I'm learning things about history that I never learned in high school. I like to watch the Lords (men) either Heavy or Rapier fight. For some people, the SCA is an adult version of dress up and pretend! Hehehe *Smile* Normaly I am shy when I first meet new people, but in the SCA I'm not. I guess it's just easier for "Angelique" to meet new people then it is for Anji.

Ok, what do I do at event's? Well, when I'm not watching the fighting, I'm at merchants row. I LOVE merchants row. If I'm not spending all my money, I'm making a wish list so I know how much money to take to the next event. Also don't be suprised if you see me stop whatever I'm doing, wandering around or helping someone, just to give a friend a hug. Yes, I am also known as "The Hug Lady". At night you can find me around one of my friends fires, enjoying the fire, drinking and enjoying the many conversations that go hand in hand with the other two things. If I'm not busy flirting with one of the cute gents, you might catch me belly dancing.

There are alot of things that one can do in the SCA other then just making garb, cooking, or fighting. There is combat and target archery, siege weapons, equestrian events, brewing, and singing to name a few. There is also chain mail, jewelry making, and much, much more.

New to the SCA?. Having trouble finding a name for the SCA? Then go and check out The Medieval Names Archive, for a few ideas, it has alot of diffrent countrys, and names on it. An Index to the Given Names in the 1292 Census of Paris, has a lot of Freanch names, even surnames.

Here are a few links that can help you get started with garb. For people just starting out in the SCA you might find The Leine page very useful. The Costume Page, has alot of links on it. You name it, you can find it on that page. People and Groups in the SCA is also a good place to start to find ideas and information about the SCA.

Wanting to get into fighting? For Plate check out Valintine Armouries. For affordable SCA legal helms try Accdntprone's Armoury. If you are keen on building your own armour or want to chat and bounce ideas of professional armourers visit The Armour Archive.

Here are some links I hope will help with getting ideas on meals to make. This first one has a bunch of good recipes and it is, Cariadoc's Miscellany. Want to make a good German meal? Then try 14th Century German Feast. For a good English try 14th Century English Feast. Want to make a French meal? Then go to 14th Century French Feast.

I just found this great site for ordering jewelry and clothing and alot of other great things. The site is called Goodgoth.com. I am always looking for more sites like this, if anybody knows of any please let me know.

If you would like to see your webpage as a link please email me.
